¤ýLee Gibu repatriated Uljin in 505 (sixth year after King Jijeung came to the throne) and named as Ujin. In the united Silla dynasty, general Kim Yusin (about 667) came to Ujin and called it as Uljin because a lot of jewelries were founded and mountains were grand.
¤ýA historic document says Boni princes, the son of King Sinmun resided in Jangcheongul (Seongnugul) in Uljin outside Ryusa river (Younghae) and cultivated his moral sense for twenty days, which shows Uljin was used before that time (about 705).
¤ýKing Gyeongdeok reformed administrative districts into nine Jus and renamed guns and hyeons in 757 (16th year after he came to the throne). He renamed Haseul-ju as Myeong-ju and put nine guns and 25 hyeons under the Ju and Uljingun was included. Uljingun was controlled under Haejeonhyeon called also Haeseohyeon.

¤ýThe founder of the Koryo dynasty changed the status from Uljingun to Uljinhyeon and dispatched a governor in 940 (23rd year after he founded the dynasty).
¤ýPyeonghae was called as Geuneuleohyeon in the Koguryo and Silla dynasty and renamed as Pyeonghaehyeon. It was subordinated into Ye-ju (Younghae) in 1022 (13th year after King Heonjong came to the throne) and renamed as Geuneuleohyeon. In 1175 (fifth year after King Myeongjong came to the throne), its name was changed as Giseonghyeon and Gammu, a governor was dispatched. Recognizing the achievement of Hwangseo, a resident who support the king to travel China, It was renamed as Pyeonghae and its status was also grown to Gun.

¤ýNamed as Uljin hyeon and Pyeonghae gun respectively when King Taejong renamed every gun and hyeon in October 1413 (13th year after the king came to the throne) ¤ýDuring Kam-o reform, local administrative districts changed and the status of Hyeon was not used any more. Uljin grew to Gun and belonged to the Gangneung part and belonged to the Gangwon province in the next year (AD 1896) when nationwide administrative districts were reformed into thirteen provinces. |

¤ýJanuary 19th 1953 Established a branch office in the Pyeonghaemyeon according to Myeon's regulation No 15 (Published on 19th January 1953). ¤ýFebruary 13th 1953 Established Jugbyeon branch office in the Uljin myeon according to Myeon's regulation No 22 (Published on February 13th 1953). ¤ýJanuary 1st 1963 Incorporated into Gyeongsang northern province from Gangwon province and Bonsinri Onjeongmyeon was incorporated into Subimyeon Youngyanggun according to law No 1172 (Published on February 13th 1962). ¤ýMay 28th 1967 Established Hadang branch office in Bugmyeon according to Gun's regulation No 204 (Published on May 28th 1967). ¤ýMay 1st 1979 Grew from Uljinmyeon to Uljineup according to President's order No 9409 (Published on April 7th 1979). ¤ýDecember 1st 1980 Grew from Pyeonghaemyeon to Pyeonghaeeup according to President's order No 10050 (Published on October 21st 1980). ¤ýFebruary 15th 1983 Some areas of Jeongokri Seomyeon (around Seungbustation) was incorporated into Seokpomyeon Bonghwagun according to President's order No 11027 (Published on January 10th 1983). ¤ýApril 1st 1986 Jugbyeon branch office in Uljineup grew to Jugbyeonmyeon and Hopo branch office in Pyeonghae to Hupomyeon according to President order No 11874 (Published on March 27th 1986).
¤ýDecember 26th 1994 Some areas (Galjeon) of Wangpiri Seomyeon was incorporated into Sinamri Subimyeion Youngyangri according to the regulation of jurisdiction change of city and gun (President's order No 14434 published on December 22nd 1994). |
